I have played this deck for as long as I can remember playing magic. Some mono blue variant featuring control elements along large air born creatures. My favorite was Mahamoti Djinn. Once it was quite good, now not so much - picture yourself at a legacy tournament with 4 of these in your deck? Anyway, I'm currently playing more and more casual magic - here I need to check powerlevel of my decks. And the djinn is good for leveling out so people actually wants to play against me.
Another card for this deck I really like, is Isochron Scepter. The design is awesome, however no one plays scepters in tournaments anymore.
So the deck:
qty | artifact |
---|---|
2 | Isochron Scepter |
1 | Phyrexian Metamorph |
1 | Icy Manipulator |
3 | Sky Diamond |
3 | Basalt Monolith |
qty | creature |
4 | Mahamoti Djinn |
2 | Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir |
2 | Snapcaster Mage |
1 | Clone |
1 | Serendib Efreet |
qty | enchantment |
1 | Control Magic |
qty | instant |
4 | Counterspell |
3 | Impulse |
1 | Arcane Denial |
1 | Boomerang |
1 | Disrupt |
qty | land |
17 | Island |
2 | Soldevi Excavations |
qty | planeswalker |
2 | Karn Liberated |
2 | Jace, the Mind Sculptor |
2 | Tezzeret the Seeker |
qty | sorcery |
4 | Ponder |
The three planeswalkers are probably what makes this deck fly. Even the least strong one, Tezzeret the Seeker, is quite hefty along for example Basalt Monolith. The old versions of the deck ran 4 Air Elemental - however these are just not good enough anymore, Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir is a nicer alternative, and now the djinns can be cast instant speed. Snapcaster Mage is just there because why not. He doesn't have that many targets, but a recurring Counterspell is quite effective.
I really like the Soldevi Excavations. It's a land with scry. It might be a little slow for competitive environtments, however in this deck I think it's a super fun card.
I think that's it for now. Hold it tight!
