The 1999 world championship

01.01.0001

I have this match up I keep coming back to.

So it's the world finals between Brian Davis and Bob Maher. Davis has since disappeared from the mtg-scene, I think. Maher hasn't. Maher's deck is this one:

CreatureQty
Shard Phoenix1
Morphling4
Spike Feeder4
SorceryQty
Gaea's Blessing2
InstantQty
Brainstorm4
Force of Will4
Counterspell4
Enlightened Tutor4
Impulse3
Swords to Plowshares2
Forbid1
Disrupt4
ArtifactQty
Null Rod1
Powder Keg4
EnchantmentQty
Abundance1
Aura of Silence1
Ivory Mask1
Oath of Druids2
Sylvan Library1
Trade Routes1
LandQty
Tropical Island4
Tundra4
Volcanic Island2
Flood Plain3
Reflecting Pool1
Wasteland4
Faerie Conclave1
Treetop Village3

And Brian Davis' playing:

CreatureQty
Skittering Skirge2
SorceryQty
Duress4
Unmask4
Corrupt4
Drain Life4
InstantQty
Dark Ritual4
Demonic Consultation3
Contagion4
Spinning Darkness3
EnchantmentQty
Necropotence4
ArtifactQty
Nevinyrral's Disk2
LandQty
Swamp122

Since Wizards page showing these decks is down, I have to rely on a less sound looking source. Anyway this seems to be the two competing decks. Maher's deck is quite interesting. Both utilizes very powerful enchantments, Maher has Oath where Davis has Necropotence.

It sure was back when you were allowed to play with cards in standard (or extended) that are now banned in formats like legacy.
